Phase 1

Anger can do any of the following attacks in any order:

  • Anger will often roar, spawning one Shroomer either on the left or right side of the arena. Anger will not roar if there is already a Shroomer on screen, and the Shroomers will be corrupted if Anger is or they can possibly be corrupted if you have any curses.
  • Anger can burrow into the ground and appear in another part of the arena which is telegraphed by a red marker. Anger can be attacks as they are climbing out.
  • Anger can toss its mushroom cap that ricochets against the walls before exploding above Anger. This attack can be avoided by staying away from the center of the room.
  • Anger can fire out two large bullets, one at the floor and one at the ceiling, which explode into multiple smaller bullets.
  • When Anger burrows out of the ground on one of the raised platforms, it is likely to throw their mushroom cap horizontally for a short distance while firing gravity effected projectiles, before it returns to Anger and disappears. Anger is likely to burrow and move to another part of the arena after it throws the mushroom.
  • Anger will occasionally fire spores directly above it, which will slowly fall from the top of the screen in random patterns.
  • Anger will brace themselves before jumping towards or away from you, but it cannot hit you if you are standing underneath the raised platform.

Phase 2

Anger uses all the same attacks from phase 1, and always uses the spore attack. The only difference is that Anger attacks faster and the spore attack creates more spores.

Strategy

General Tips:

  • Anger doesn't have any fast, close range attacks, so weapons like the base Orbit Gun and the Shotguns are still very useful.
  • The spawned Shroomers are not much of a big deal and their projectiles only reach ~75% of the arena and move very slow, meaning you can ignore them most of the time. You can even get an achievment for it.
  • Standing underneath the raised platforms will allow you to avoid the jump attack, ricocheting mushroom attack's projectiles and the boomerang mushroom attack. Although, it is possible that Anger can trap you by burrowing underneath the platform they are standing on, meaning you'll have to move and risk getting hit by the projectiles.
  • It is possible that Anger's spore attack spawns projectiles in a way that could make it almost unavoidable to take damage, so it is recommended to be cautious whenever it uses that attack.
  • The Shroomers can be much more difficult to dodge during the second phase, as the large number of projectiles allow the Shroomer's bullets to catch you off guard.

Relics:

  • Anger is quite an easy boss as long as you know its pattern, so relics don't matter as much, but general DPS improving relics like the Orange Juice or Golden Bullet are very useful.
  • As its primary function is to make bosses die quicker, the Broken Nail and Mandrake are very good against Anger.

Celestial Weapons:

  • The Capricorn Shield is useful as it can give you a bit of breathing room, especially during the Spore attack, and the reflected projectiles can deal a small amount of damaged to Anger or even kill a Shroomer.
  • The Scorpio Hook can be used when Anger traps you against one side of the wall, e.g. when it uses the Boomerang attack and burrows where you are, or when the spore attack becomes very difficult to avoid.
  • The Scythe of Libra is good for getting a bit of extra souls, but it is not worth taking damage if you need to grab one of the extra souls created.
  • The Sagittarius Bow and Cancer Grenade both deal good damage to the boss, and can even damage the Shroomer at the same time.
